When Daniel arrived one day in early August with his tape measure and notebook, I already had some experience of solar PV, and I was pleased that his advice was very much in line with my expectations.

What did come as a surprise was the size of installation that I could afford, and we agreed in principle that his company would install 16 panels, 8 on the east side, 8 on the west, with a dual input inverter to make the best of the output from the two arrays as the sun’s position changed. At my request he brought an example of their roof mounting hardware for me to see, and explained how this would be fitted so as to keep the roof watertight. After a few days consideration, I gave Daniel the OK, and scaffolding duly arrived front and back, followed two days later by Daniel and his father and their two colleagues, who promptly got on with fitting the system, helped by 4 days of fine weather. The team were always friendly and polite, even when faced with my home cooking.

The job progressed smoothly, and on the fourth day while things were being finished off on the roof, Daniel emerged from the cellar and announced that we were generating electricity, and then gave me the documentation and explained what I should do next to obtain payment. Since then, in spite of some pretty gloomy days, the system has averaged nearly 10 kWh of power each day, which is way in excess of my consumption, and I’m glad of the chance to produce rather than consume. I’m also looking forward to getting my first cheque. I’m glad I chose Electrotect to fit my system.
